Several parts of Bangladesh are expected to experience rain and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours, as the monsoon remains active across the country, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

In its latest forecast issued on Monday, the Met office said light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning are likely in many areas of Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.

Weather conditions are also expected to bring rainfall to a few places in Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions. Some areas may experience moderately heavy to heavy downpours.

The BMD said both daytime and nighttime temperatures are likely to remain largely unchanged across the country.

Netrokona recorded the highest rainfall in the country during the previous 24 hours, with 79 millimetres of rain measured until 6:00am on Monday.

Meanwhile, the highest temperature recorded on Sunday was 36.3 degrees Celsius in Ishwardi, Pabna.

Meteorologists said a trough extending from Gangetic West Bengal to the northwestern Bay of Bengal continues to influence weather patterns in the region.

The monsoon remains fairly active over Bangladesh, while conditions over the North Bay of Bengal are described as weak to moderate, contributing to the ongoing rain activity across the country.
