Dhaka summons Indian envoy over Delhi airport incident involving PM adviser

Bangladesh has summoned India‍‍`s Acting High Commissioner, Pawan Kumar Badhe, following an incident in which Prime Minister’s Information Adviser Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman was initially denied entry into India.

According to foreign ministry sources, Bangladesh is expected to convey its deep concern and formally protest the incident during the meeting with the Indian diplomat.

Dr. Rahman arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday evening to attend a two-day senior officials’ meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association, which began in New Delhi on Monday. He was scheduled to lead the Bangladeshi delegation at the meeting.

Despite prior notification through diplomatic channels, Indian immigration authorities reportedly prevented him from entering the country upon arrival. Although permission was later granted following instructions from higher authorities, Dr. Rahman chose not to enter India and instead decided to return to Dhaka via Colombo. He arrived back in Dhaka on Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh‍‍`s Foreign Adviser, Khalilur Rahman, described the incident at the Delhi airport immigration checkpoint as “unfortunate and regrettable.”

The development comes amid ongoing diplomatic engagement between Bangladesh and India and is likely to be raised formally through diplomatic channels.
