PM orders swift relocation of four inter-district bus terminals

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the relocation of Dhaka’s four intercity bus terminals outside the capital as part of efforts to reduce chronic traffic congestion.

The decision was made at a meeting on traffic management modernization and congestion reduction held Monday at the Cabinet Division’s Public Administration Room in the Secretariat.

Confirming the development, Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu said this was the Prime Minister’s third meeting focused on improving traffic conditions in Dhaka.

According to the relocation plan, the Fulbaria-Gulistan bus terminal will be moved to Keraniganj. The Mohakhali bus terminal will first be temporarily relocated to Purbachal before being permanently shifted near Tongi. The Gabtoli intercity bus terminal will be moved to Hemayetpur, while the Sayedabad-Jatrabari terminal will be relocated to Kanchpur.

Shiplu also said the Prime Minister instructed authorities to quickly remove the numerous bus counters scattered across the city and relocate them to designated locations.

The meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister, reviewed a range of measures aimed at modernizing Dhaka’s traffic management system. Rahman expressed satisfaction with the benefits already being seen from the installation of AI-powered cameras in the city’s traffic signaling network.

Home Affairs Adviser Salahuddin Ahmed; Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Sheikh Robiul Alam; State Minister Habibur Rashid Habib; Member of Parliament Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas; Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam; Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan; Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani; Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar; Home Secretary Monjur Morshed Chowdhury; RAJUK Chairman Riazul Islam; and secretaries and senior officials from relevant ministries and agencies were present at the meeting.
