PM orders relocation of Gulistan, Sayedabad and Mohakhali terminals

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered the relocation of three major bus terminals in Dhaka in a move aimed at easing long-standing traffic congestion and restoring order on the capital’s roads.

The decision was disclosed on Monday by two administrators of Dhaka Metropolitan following a meeting with the Prime Minister at the Public Administration Conference Room of the Cabinet Division in the Bangladesh Secretariat. The meeting formed part of the third round of discussions on traffic congestion reduction and the modernization of traffic management.

The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, focused on traffic conditions in Dhaka and other parts of the country, as well as broader reforms to urban transport systems and traffic management.

According to the decisions taken, the Sayedabad, Gulistan, and Mohakhali bus terminals—located at key entry points and commercial hubs of the capital—were identified as major contributors to persistent traffic congestion. Authorities have been instructed to gradually relocate these terminals outside Dhaka or to suitable peripheral locations.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam, and senior officials of relevant ministries and agencies were present at the meeting.
