At this year`s Amar Ekushey Book Fair, a special book titled Small Loans, Big Dreams is drawing attention.
The book, written by Alex Counts, the founder of Grameen Foundation, details the extraordinary work of Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and his pioneering role in spreading microcredit throughout Bangladesh.
The Asian edition of the book is being introduced for the first time at the book fair and offers readers a chance to dive into how microcredit, introduced by Dr. Yunus through Grameen Bank, has had a transformative effect on countless lives.
Through the story of a marginalized woman who started a small business, Alex Counts shows how microloans can turn dreams into reality.
This book is especially important as it highlights the significant impact microcredit has had in reducing economic inequality and enabling disadvantaged people to participate in the global economy.
Mahrukh Mohiuddin, Director of UPL Publications, shared the exciting news with BSS that the Asian edition of Small Loans, Big Dreams is making its debut at the fair.
UPL is also offering other books by Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Alex Counts, including:
- Banker to the Poor: The Autobiography of Muhammad Yunus, Founder of Grameen Bank by Professor Muhammad Yunus

- Building Social Business: The New Kind of Capitalism That Serves Humanity’s Most Pressing Needs by Dr. Muhammad Yunus
- Muhammad Yunus, Grameen Bank, and the Global Microfinance Revolution by Alex Counts
- Jorimon and Others: Faces of Poverty edited by Professor Muhammad Yunus
Originally written in 2008, Small Loans, Big Dreams now also explores how Grameen Bank has adjusted its methods over time, responding to challenges like economic downturns and environmental crises.
Alex Counts also addresses the critics of the Grameen model and emphasizes the long-term impact of Dr. Yunus`s vision.
This book, with its message of hope and empowerment, not only showcases how microcredit works but also highlights how it can be used as a tool to fight economic inequality.
The Asian edition is now available at the UPL stall at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair, offering a unique look at the story of microcredit and its transformative effects.
