A conflict between quota demonstrators and members from the ruling party`s student wing, the Bangladesh Chhatra League, occurred on Monday at Dhaka University campus, reportedly injuring several students, including female.
A Facebook live broadcast revealed that a few university female students were hurt when they were entangled in the fight. It was not apparent, yet, that they were under attack but injured.
The incident happened hours after ruling party General Secretary Obaidul Quader said that quota protestors have shown extreme arrogance by calling themselves `Razakar` on Sunday. He warned that Chhatra League will give a fitting reply to those students.
Around 3:00 pm, a group of demonstrators urged students via loudspeakers to join their anti-quota protest from other halls, which led to the first altercation in front of DU`s Bijoy Ekattor Hall, according to our DU correspondent.
The demonstrators were attacked by Chhatra League men who were hurling brick chips at them as soon as they arrived at Bijoy Ekattor Hall.
Conflicts have also reportedly occurred close to Mastar Da Surja Sen Hall.
With iron rod, bamboo sticks, and brick bats in hand, the leaders and activists of the Chhatra League pursued the quota activists through the DU VC residence in the direction of TSC. Consequently, several students suffered injuries.
A Dhaka Medical College Hospital source notified this media that around 50 injured were hospitalized.
However, Chhatra League men from different units of the city have taken control over DU campus including TSC intersection and the adjacent area of DU VC residence.
