Now DU suspends duo of ‘Proloy Gang’

Within a day of sending jail by a court, two students have been suspended from Dhaka University on the charges of involvement in misconduct, anti-disciplinary activities as well as tarnishing the image of the university.

A press release signed by Mahmood Alam, Dhaka University’s Director of Public Relations Office notified about the development.

The university Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman gave the approval for suspension on Tuesday (March 28), the handout added.

The suspended students have been asked to submit a written response within seven working days of receiving the letter issued for them, as to why they should not be expelled from Dhaka University.

Naimur Rahman Durjoy, a resident of Kabi Jasimuddin Hall also a student of Anthropology department, Sakib Ferdous, a resident of Sir AF Rahman Hall also a student of Accounting and Information Systems department are the suspended who were sent to jail by a Dhaka court on Monday for further inquiry over beating another student inside the campus on Saturday of Criminology department named Zobair Ibn Humayun.

All the accused and victim are students of academic year 2020-2021.

Zobair’s mother Sadia Afroz Khan filed a case with Shahbagh police station on Sunday against 19 identified and 6/7 unknown persons.

After the hearing on Monday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Ahmed ordered to send Durjoy and Sakib to jail as the investigation officer Sub-Inspector Rashedul Alam of Shahbag police sought the same. The court also fixed May 9 as the date for submitting the investigation report of the case.
