Police lobbed tear gas shells and sound grenades to disperse quota reform protesters in Dhaka`s Palashi area this afternoon.
Around 5:10pm, when student demonstrators attempted to march from Azimpur through Palashi, police pursued them and used tear gas shells and sound grenades to halt their progress.
Following the dispersal of protesters, our Dhaka University correspondent reported that members of Chhatra League and Jubo League assaulted them with bamboo sticks and iron rods near Chapra Mosque.
As of the report filed around 6:00pm, the extent of casualties was unknown.
After the police intervention, they maintained positions in Palashi while Chhatra League and Jubo League members positioned themselves at various points in Azimpur and Palashi.
