A 5.6-magnitude earthquake killed at least 162 people and wounded hundreds in Indonesia`s West Java province on Monday, rescuers still struggling to find more bodies trapped under the rubble as aftershocks hit.
On Indonesia’s main island of Java, heavy equipment reached in the city of Cianjur where the magnitude 5.6 land-based quake struck Monday afternoon. Terrified residents rushed to the streets mostly covered in blood.
Roads and bridges were severely damaged, that blocked streets and buried several houses and motorists.
Just few hours ago the power supplies and phone network have begun to improve in the quake-hit areas.
West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil revealed the death toll in the remote, rural district, saying that many of the victims were public school students who had finished their extra classes at Islamic institutions when the buildings fell.
The number of injured people is likely to increase by the time. Many structures collapsed, and locals and first responders are prepared for terrible news.
