The BBC reported on Sunday that one of its staff members had been arrested and beaten up by police in China while covering protests against the nation`s zero-Covid policy.
On Sunday, hundreds of people protested against the government in the streets of China`s biggest cities, marking a rare example.
"The BBC is extremely concerned about the treatment of our journalist Ed Lawrence, who was arrested and handcuffed while covering the protests in Shanghai," the broadcaster said in a statement.
According to the BBC, police have beaten Lawrence while he was being held in custody for several hours. Later, he was released.
