China arrests BBC journalist covering Covid protests

The BBC reported on Sunday that one of its staff members had been arrested and beaten up by police in China while covering protests against the nation‍‍`s zero-Covid policy.

On Sunday, hundreds of people protested against the government in the streets of China‍‍`s biggest cities, marking a rare example.

"The BBC is extremely concerned about the treatment of our journalist Ed Lawrence, who was arrested and handcuffed while covering the protests in Shanghai," the broadcaster said in a statement.

According to the BBC, police have beaten Lawrence while he was being held in custody for several hours. Later, he was released.
