Thousands of people were trapped under the rubble as when a strong earthquake of magnitude 7.8 hit in the early February 6.
As many as 10 provinces of Turkey and the neighboring province of Aleppo in Syria were turned into destructive areas where most of them are dead. Those who were rescued alive are being treated.
In the meantime, many have recovered and are telling the media how their lives have been spent day after day under the rubble. The report of Indian media NDTV has highlighted such a horrible experience.
A Turkish youth named Korkut was rescued from the rubble of a building in Turkey 94 hours after the earthquake hit. Korkut told the media, “All I remember is that I was trapped in the rubble of a building. It was pitch black where I was stuck in the debris. I could not see my own hands and feet. I don`t even know how many days and nights I was trapped. I screamed for attention but no one heard. Life is almost lost due to lack of water. I was forced to drink my own urine to save my life.”
The 17-year-old youth further said, “My mobile phone was in my pant’s pocket. I set an alarm on my phone every 25 minutes to avoid falling asleep. But after two days the charge of the phone also ended. Sometimes I get frustrated. At that time I heard the voices of the rescuers. But I was afraid, they would not hear me. I was also afraid of the collapse of the rubble as a result of the rescue operation. Finally, after four days I was rescued from the rubble.”
Thousands of people like Korkut have somehow managed to survive who were trapped in the rubble. After even 248 hours, the trapped people were being rescued alive from the rubble. Rescuers are also trying hard to rescue more people. But the hope of saving the lives is fading.
