Abu Sadik Kayem, vice president (VP) candidate of the student organization-backed ‘United Student Alliance,’ has accused the university administration of showing favoritism toward a particular group of candidates.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday afternoon in front of the Business Faculty, Kayem claimed that some candidates were violating the code of conduct, yet the administration remained silent.
“The university administration has repeatedly acted in a partisan manner toward one group and continues to do so, which is very disappointing,” he said.
Kayem added that their campaign aims to spread a democratic spirit across the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU).
He noted that ongoing examinations are hindering election activities and requested the administration to schedule all exams after 9 September. “We have discussed these matters with students,” he said.
The Islami Chhatra Shibir leader also outlined his priorities if elected, including the immediate activation of the e-library, addressing the high cost of food on campus, providing subsidies, and transforming the university into a research-focused institution free from oppression and exploitation.
Meanwhile, SM Farhad, president of the DU Shibir branch and candidate for general secretary, accused rivals of running negative campaigns, spreading false information, and manipulating images to tarnish their reputations.
He also raised concerns about cyberbullying of female candidates, which he said is causing familial and social pressure.
Farhad urged all candidates to focus on intellectual competition and appealed to the student body to refrain from spreading negative propaganda using artificial intelligence tools.
