Opponents of military rule in Myanmar launched drone attacks on two military targets in the capital, Naypyitaw, according to Reuters reports on Thursday. The alleged strikes mark a significant challenge to the junta regime‍‍`s authority.

While Reuters couldn‍‍`t independently verify the claims, efforts to reach the military government for comment were unsuccessful. State-controlled and military-affiliated media outlets remained silent on the reported incidents.

The National Unity Government (NUG), a coalition of anti-junta factions formed after the 2021 coup, disclosed the coordinated drone assaults on the military installations. However, specific details regarding the drones, weaponry employed, or the extent of damage inflicted on the targets weren‍‍`t provided.

In a statement, the NUG declared, "The synchronized drone operations were simultaneously executed against Naypyitaw, targeting both the headquarters of the terrorist military and Alar Air Base." Initial reports hint at possible casualties resulting from the attacks.

If authenticated, this development could undermine the credibility of Myanmar‍‍`s well-equipped military, which prides itself as the guardian of the nation‍‍`s sovereignty. The reported strikes represent a formidable challenge to the military‍‍`s authority, presenting its most significant trial since seizing power in 1962 from British colonial rule.

Naypyitaw serves as the nerve center of the military government and houses a substantial portion of its defense infrastructure. Constructed in a secluded region of central Myanmar over two decades ago by the previous ruling junta, the city symbolizes the military‍‍`s stronghold in the country.
