A former Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) has been arrested in connection with the abduction of Sukhranjan Bali, a witness for Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi.
Sukhranjan Bali, who had come to testify in favour of Sayeedi in 2012, was allegedly abducted from the premises of the International Crimes Tribunal in Dhaka.
The arrest of former ASP Fazlur Rahman was made by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) on Thursday night (July 2), according to Senior Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal Mizanul Islam.
Following his disappearance, Bali was later traced to a prison in India, where he reportedly served five years.
In 2025, Bali filed a complaint with the International Crimes Tribunal, naming 32 individuals as accused, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Chief Justice S. K. Sinha, over the incident.
