Switzerland secured their place in the round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Algeria in Vancouver, Canada, on Thursday. Goals from Breel Embolo and Dan Ndoye in either half sealed a convincing win for the Swiss.

Switzerland started the match on the front foot and took the lead in the 10th minute through Embolo. The Swiss maintained their one-goal advantage until halftime after controlling much of the opening period.

They doubled their lead immediately after the restart, with Ndoye finding the net in the opening minute of the second half to put the result beyond doubt. Algeria attempted to mount a comeback but were unable to break down Switzerland‍‍`s well-organised defence.

The victory also extended Switzerland‍‍`s unbeaten run at this year‍‍`s World Cup. The Swiss had advanced to the knockout stage as winners of Group B after recording two wins and a draw during the group phase.

Switzerland will face either Colombia or Ghana at the same venue next Tuesday as they bid to reach the World Cup quarter-finals for the third time in their history.
