President of Bangladesh has removed Justice Khondker Diliruzzaman from his position as a judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court.
The Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs issued an official notification regarding the matter on Wednesday.
The notification, signed by Secretary Sheikh Abu Taher, states that the President, in accordance with Article 96, Clause (6) of the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, removed Justice Khondker Diliruzzaman from his post on May 21.
According to a news update published on the Supreme Court’s website on Thursday, May 22, the removal was based on a report submitted by the Supreme Judicial Council.
The President acted in line with the council`s findings, invoking Article 96(6) of the Constitution.
Khondker Diliruzzaman was appointed as an additional judge of the High Court Division on May 31, 2018, and was confirmed as a permanent judge on May 30, 2020.
Earlier, President had also removed Justice Khizir Hayat from his position as a judge of the High Court Division under the same constitutional provision, Article 96(6). The Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs issued the related notification on March 18.
Justice Khizir Hayat was appointed as an additional judge on May 31, 2018, and became a permanent judge on May 30, 2020.
