Erling Haaland once again stole the spotlight on the World Cup stage, scoring twice to guide Norway to a crucial victory. His outstanding performance helped the Scandinavian side defeat Senegal 3–2 and secure qualification for the knockout stage.

The Norwegian striker continued his remarkable scoring streak on Tuesday, netting two goals and extending his run of scoring a brace to six consecutive international matches. His goals proved decisive as Norway reached the last 16 of the World Cup for the first time in 28 years.

Norway last appeared at the World Cup in 1998. In that tournament in France, they progressed beyond the group stage but were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Italy. Nearly three decades later, they have now returned to the global stage and reached the knockout phase once again.

Alongside Haaland, captain Martin Ødegaard has played a key role in Norway’s strong performances. Throughout the tournament, the team has also embraced its cultural identity, with players often celebrating using Viking-inspired traditions. Their well-known “rowing the Viking ship” celebration was once again on display after sealing victory over Senegal.

Haaland has been central to Norway’s success, emerging as their standout performer since returning to World Cup competition. If his scoring form continues, Norway could dream of going even further in the tournament.

While knockout qualification is already secured, tougher challenges lie ahead. However, Norway’s current form and Haaland’s clinical finishing have boosted their confidence and ambitions going forward.
