Argentina secured a 2–0 victory over Austria in a thrilling encounter, with captain Lionel Messi scoring both goals. The Argentine superstar also etched his name into the history books by setting a new record as the highest goalscorer in World Cup history.

The match did not begin well for Messi. In the eighth minute, he missed a penalty, sending his effort wide of the post and leaving Argentina disappointed.

However, that frustration did not last long.

Argentina continued to press forward, creating several attacking opportunities in the 21st and 33rd minutes, but Austria’s disciplined defence and goalkeeper kept them at bay.

The breakthrough finally came in the 39th minute. Building an attack down the left flank, Messi received the ball near the edge of the penalty area and fired a superb shot past the Austrian goalkeeper to give Argentina the lead, sending the stadium into celebration.

The goal was Messi’s 17th in World Cup history, allowing him to surpass German legend Miroslav Klose and become the tournament’s all-time leading goalscorer.

Argentina went into half-time with a 1–0 advantage and maintained their attacking approach after the break. Deep into stoppage time, Messi struck again, scoring his second goal of the match and sealing a 2–0 victory for his side.

With that goal, Messi’s World Cup tally rose to 18, putting him two goals clear of Klose and further strengthening his position as the competition’s all-time top scorer.

Messi once again captivated football fans with a masterful performance throughout the match. His brilliance not only guided Argentina to a crucial win but also added a new chapter to World Cup history.
