30 rounds of ammunition stolen from temple; OC withdrawn, 7 police officers suspended

Thirty rounds of shotgun ammunition were stolen along with other belongings from on-duty police personnel at the Shri Shri Mahadev Ashram and Kali Temple in Nimtoli, Badda, Dhaka.

Following the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam of Badda Police Station has been withdrawn, while one Sub-Inspector (SI), one Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), and five constables have been suspended.

The matter was confirmed on Tuesday (September 30) by multiple sources within the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Police Md. Tarek Mahmud said, “For negligence of duty, SI Mobashbir of Badda Police Station, one ASI, and five constables have been temporarily suspended. OC Saiful Islam has also been withdrawn in connection with the same incident.”

According to sources in Gulshan Division Police and DMP headquarters, the on-duty force stationed at the temple had been provided accommodation on the second floor of an under-construction building within the temple compound. Between approximately 4:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, while four policemen and three Ansar members were asleep, four bags, two wallets, and three mobile phones were stolen. One of the bags contained 30 rounds of shotgun ammunition.

Later, around 9:45 a.m., the stolen bags were recovered near a deserted plot adjacent to the temple. The ammunition was found intact. Police also detained three individuals for questioning.

Confirming the development, DC Tarek Mahmud said, “The stolen ammunition and belongings of the temple security personnel have been recovered. However, this was a clear case of negligence. As a departmental measure, action has been taken against the OC, one SI, one ASI, and five constables.”
