Jamaat announces nationwide program from October 1 to 12

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a new nationwide program from October 1 to 12 demanding the holding of the next national parliamentary elections in February based on the July National Charter, along with four other key demands.

Earlier, the party had organized a three-day program in September on the same issues.

The announcement was made on Tuesday at the Al-Falah auditorium, the party’s central office, by Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar during a press conference. The program was unveiled to outline the party’s next steps in support of its five-point demand.

Planned Activities:

October 1–9: Nationwide public outreach campaigns to raise awareness and build public opinion in favor of the five-point demands. Engagements will include discussion meetings, roundtable conferences, seminars, and other related events.

October 10: Public rallies in Dhaka and all divisional cities.

October 12: Submission of memoranda to district commissioners across the country.

The Five Demands Announced by Jamaat:

  • Conduct the upcoming parliamentary elections in February based on the July National Charter.

  • Implement the Proportional Representation (PR) system in both houses in the upcoming elections.

  • Ensure a level playing field for all, guaranteeing free, fair, and credible elections.

  • Hold accountable those responsible for oppression, atrocities, and corruption under the current government.

  • Ban the activities of the Jatiya Party and the 14-Party Alliance, considered collaborators of autocratic rule.

During the press conference, Mia Golam Parwar read a written statement highlighting Jamaat’s active role in legally supporting the July Charter. He emphasized that the party has consistently raised the issue of the legal basis of the July Charter, citing historical precedents as part of the “Doctrine of Necessity.”

To strengthen the legal foundation of the July Charter, Jamaat has reportedly submitted two proposals to the government:

Issuance of a Constitutional Order for the July National Charter.

Conducting a referendum before the elections to give further legal validation to the Charter.

The statement warned that without proper legal backing, the achievements of the people’s uprising, gained at the cost of students’ and citizens’ lives, could fail. Jamaat also criticized the government for inaction on public demands, noting that the party’s five-point agenda has already gained broad public support.

The press conference was attended by Assistant Secretaries General Abdul Halim and Hamidur Rahman Azad, Central Executive Member Saiful Alam Khan, Media and Propaganda Chief Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, and Dhaka Metropolitan South Amir Nurul Islam Bulbul, among others.
