Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) has decided to demolish 42 very dangerous buildings in Dhaka within two months.
The organization is sending letters on Sunday (March 12), to the building owners or authorities with instructions to vacate these buildings within a week.
First, the owners of these buildings will be given two months to demolish those on their own initiative. Otherwise, Rajuk will demolish the buildings and recover the cost from the owner.
This decision was taken at the meeting of Urban Development Committee held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Saturday (March 11). The meeting was chaired by Urban Development Committee convener and Housing and Public Works Ministry Secretary Kazi Washi Uddin.
According to Rajuk sources, it was decided to give notice to 187 more building owners in the meeting. All those buildings are also on the risk list. However, notice will be given to the concerned building owner or authority to use them by retrofitting. If they want to use retrofitting then they will, otherwise they will be dismantled in the same process.
