Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Coordinator (Southern Region) of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), has strongly criticized the current Health Adviser of the interim government, calling him a "classic example of incompetence and mismanagement."
Speaking at a public rally in Brahmanbaria town on Thursday, Hasnat expressed frustration over what he described as a broken healthcare system led by an unqualified adviser.
“This state has failed to ensure even a natural death for its citizens,” said Hasnat . “It is extremely unfortunate that such a fragile health system is being run by someone who is neither competent nor qualified. Were there no doctors left in Bangladesh? Through this Health Adviser, they have set an example of sheer incompetence.”
Referring to the recent military aircraft crash at Milestone School and College in Dhaka`s Uttara area, Hasnat said, “You step outside and risk being hit by a bus. If you go to a hospital, you may die due to lack of treatment. You can die in a plane crash or a ferry accident. The state gives no guarantee of a peaceful or natural death. We demand that guarantee.”
Hasnat also criticized the overall structure of the state and the interim government. “We wanted a restructured governance system from this transitional government,” he said. “It’s unfortunate that our former health minister had a degree in English, and the current one studied Bangla. Those who are truly qualified and capable should have been brought into government to show what a functional health system looks like.”
He called for urgent reforms before the next election. “The reforms we have proposed for democratic transition must be implemented immediately,”
Hasnat stated. “Before a credible election can be held, there must be visible justice and reform. Proportional representation in the upper house must be ensured.”
Addressing NCP leaders and supporters, the former convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement declared, “If we remain united, we will make history. We will dismantle the reign of oppression and establish a system based on justice and equal rights for all. Brahmanbaria and Comilla will play a vital role in building a restructured Bangladesh. Justice and reform are urgently needed in the country today.”
