Hasnat Abdullah, chief organizer of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) for the southern region, has alleged that Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum was appointed under what he described as the “brotherhood quota” of Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus.
He made the remarks during a rally held in the Chandpur Bus Stand area on Wednesday (July 23) as part of NCP’s ongoing public outreach program.
“Nurjahan Begum is the clearest example of Dr Yunus’s nepotism,” Hasnat told the gathering. “She has no relevant qualifications. Her only credential is that she worked at Grameen Bank and is close to Dr Yunus.”
He further claimed that the Health Adviser lacks professional knowledge of the healthcare system or medical science. “She doesn’t understand public health, she has no instrumental knowledge, and she plays no active role in governance. The salary she draws from public funds is completely unjustified,” he said.
Hasnat criticized her for reportedly seeking medical treatment abroad. “It’s unfortunate that the health adviser herself goes to Singapore for treatment. And when we point this out, she gets offended and stops communicating,” he added.
The NCP leader concluded by saying that Nurjahan Begum should immediately return her publicly funded salary to the state treasury and resign from her position.
