The price of green chilies has started to decline following news of imports from India and an increase in market supply. On Monday, green chilies were being sold at Tk 250–350 per kilogram, depending on quality and market conditions. Prices have fallen by Tk 100–150 per kilogram.
Green chili prices had been unusually high for the past few weeks, rising to nearly Tk 400 per kilogram. However, sellers said that with imported chilies from India beginning to arrive in the market, prices could fall to around Tk 100 per kilogram within the next couple of days.
Meanwhile, there is still no relief in the vegetable market. Most vegetables are selling above Tk 100 per kilogram. In markets across the capital, eggplants are being sold at Tk 120 per kilogram, yardlong beans at Tk 100–120, bitter gourd at Tk 120, and tomatoes at Tk 120 per kilogram.
Consumers have complained that they are being forced to pay unreasonable prices under the pretext of rainfall-related supply issues. They have called for stronger market monitoring and swift action against unscrupulous traders.
