A law firm in Dubai has been hired to seek the cancellation of bail granted to former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said.
He made the remarks on Sunday afternoon while responding to questions from journalists at an event held at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sarda, Rajshahi.
The home minister said, “I spoke with the home secretary. The home secretary spoke with our UAE ambassador in Dubai. We hired a law firm a few days ago specifically for this matter. They have been instructed to file an application seeking the cancellation of his bail. Steps will be taken to have the bail revoked.”
Recently, former IGP Benazir Ahmed was released on bail from a prison in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. However, despite being granted bail, he is required to remain in the UAE under the conditions imposed by the court.
Speaking on the matter, Salahuddin Ahmed said, “I have received information that he was granted bail on the condition that he would not leave the UAE. I have asked for a certified copy of the conditions, and we have instructed our appointed law firm to pursue the cancellation of the bail.”
He added, “They have proceeded in accordance with the law, and we have hired a law firm. We are making our efforts, and we hope we will be able to get the bail cancelled and bring him back at the earliest possible time.”
