King Charles III has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for personally attending the state burial of his "most beloved mother," which will take place on Monday morning.
The new King thanked the PM over the phone this evening while speaking from Buckingham Palace.
According to a press release, Charles, who has long held the title of Prince of Wales also expressed gratitude to the people of Bangladesh for their heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the Royal family. He also thanked the President and the people of Bangladesh.
"Late Majesty was like a mother figure to me and an exceptional head of the Commonwealth," the prime minister Sheikh Hasina said during the call. I made the decision to go to her state funeral in order to offer her my own tribute.
The new monarch was also notified by the prime minister that the government of Bangladesh conducted three days of state mourning in memory of the late Queen, and that special prayers were said for her eternal rest.
"The Queen and I were looking forward to our visit to Bangladesh on the 50th anniversary," stated King Charles III. We regretfully had to cancel it, though, due to the recent circumstances.
The King also sent his best wishes to the British-Bangladeshi diaspora as well as the people of Bangladesh.
The new King called Prime Minister Hasina directly through a phone call set up by Buckingham Palace, the British monarch's official residence.
