Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has expressed serious concerns about the growing brutality in the country, pointing out the absence of moral education as the root cause behind these rising incidents of inhumanity.
He stressed that such events would not occur if the perpetrators were morally educated.
While speaking at a representative conference organized by the Bangladesh Ideal Teachers Federation, a professional body affiliated with Jamaat-e-Islami, held at the National Press Club on Sunday, March 9, Dr. Rahman focused on the need for immediate reforms in the country`s education system.
He particularly referenced a recent child rape case in Magura, calling it a direct assault on humanity.
He remarked, "The child rape incident in Magura has severely impacted our sense of humanity. If those responsible had received moral education, this kind of inhumane act would not have happened. This highlights the need for fair reforms in the education system."
Dr. Rahman went on to criticize the current state of affairs, where teachers, instead of focusing on educating students, are forced to take to the streets to demand their rights.
He emphasized that this situation is embarrassing for the nation.
He further stated, "It’s a matter of national embarrassment that teachers, who are supposed to be in classrooms, are out on the streets protesting for their demands. If institutions that are not under the MPO scheme were brought under it and those that are not yet nationalized were nationalized, many of the issues faced by teachers would be solved."
Addressing the broader issue of education, Dr. Rahman stressed the importance of restoring teachers’ dignity in society.
He linked the lack of respect for teachers to the overall inadequacies in the education system, which he believes does not provide proper moral guidance.
"The lack of proper education means teachers are not receiving the full respect they deserve in society. That`s why it`s important to educate society based on justice. Teachers have a responsibility to the people, and if Jamaat-e-Islami comes to power, one of the first actions will be to reform the education system, with a special focus on moral education," he stated.
Dr. Rahman`s speech highlighted the pressing need for reforms in the education sector and emphasized the critical role moral education plays in preventing brutal and inhumane acts, ensuring that future generations are raised with strong ethical values.
