A CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver was killed after a covered van hit his vehicle on the Dhaka–Sylhet highway in Brahmanbaria on Wednesday.
The accident occurred at Malihata in Sadar upazila when the covered van struck the CNG-run auto-rickshaw as it was heading towards Ashuganj.
The deceased was identified as Ashique, 55, son of Ira Mia of Sadar upazila.
According to Jahangir Alam, officer-in-charge of Khatihata Highway Police Station, Ashique died on the spot following the collision.
Following the incident, local people set the covered van on fire in anger.
Police later recovered the body and sent it to Brahmanbaria General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
The driver of the covered van managed to flee the scene and no arrests have been made so far, police said.
