Abdul Hannan Masud, the Senior Joint Chief Coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has addressed the recent statement made by Gono Odhikar Parishad’s President, Nurul Haque Nur, about dissolving his party and joining NCP.
Speaking on a talk show, Hannan Masud said, “Nurul Haque Nur himself expressed his wish to dissolve his party and join us.”
Masud further elaborated, “Moreover, many of the individuals who were present at Nurul Haque’s press conference have reached out to us and shown interest in joining our party as well.”
Discussing the issue, Masud explained, “We have not focused on the quantity but on the quality of the people. We’ve had discussions with several members of Nurul Haque’s party, and we have taken this matter very seriously. After expressing his desire to dissolve his party, Nurul Haque has shown interest in joining us. Ideologically, we share many similarities, but at this moment, we do have some concerns about the dissolution of his party. However, we believe that, in the future, we could work together on central issues.”
Masud also shared his thoughts on the recent media appearances of Nurul Haque, saying, “Nurul Haque unexpectedly made personal attacks on us in the media, which we didn’t find appropriate. We believe this doesn’t align with political etiquette. However, discussions are ongoing, and if Nurul Haque wants, he is welcome to join our party, or we could join his, should his party provide that opportunity.”
On the topic of the controversy regarding vehicles provided by the Pirojpur District Commissioner, Masud commented, “The District Commissioners of Pirojpur did provide vehicles to help facilitate our participation in the rally, but unfortunately, it wasn’t done properly. We apologize for this mistake.”
Masud further explained, “Some local pressure led to minor problems, but it’s a small issue. We apologize to the nation for this. When a new political party emerges, such issues can sometimes arise, which creates an uncomfortable situation. We are requesting the support of our party in this matter, and those responsible will be properly notified for clarification.”
Masud concluded, “Bangladesh has 64 districts and 600 upazilas, and this incident occurred in only one district. It’s a very minor issue, and we consider it an isolated event.”
