LDP President Col (retd) Oli Ahmed Bir Bikram on Tuesday questioned the government’s move to convert Ganabhaban, the official residence of deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, into a ‍‍`July Revolution Memorial Museum.‍‍`

“Ganabhaban is a national institution and the pride of Bangladesh. It is necessary to make a museum, but the question is why in Ganabhaban? Why not elsewhere?” he said.

Oli Ahmed also asked the government to restore the law and order situation and control the prices of essential commodities promptly.

The President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) was addressing a press conference at his party’s central office in the city’s Moghbazar  area.

Earlier on September 05, the Advisory Council of the interim government decided to convert Gonobhaban into "July Revolution Memorial Museum", keeping the memory of the student-led mass uprising that toppled Hasina-led government on August 5.

Addressing the conference, Oli Ahmed criticized the interim government saying that one month has elapsed, but this government still remains unmoved.

“The extortionists desperately continue extorting money. But the government plays the role as a silent spectator. The police are inactive,” said Oli Ahmed.

Noting that many of those who used to implement Sheikh Hasina’s agenda are still now in the administration, he said, “It’ll have to take decisions urgently over them.”

“We want to say one thing that the persons who are inept and inactive can’t do any welfare of the country,” he added.

The LDP president said there is no place in this country for establishing dictatorship, mass murderers, corrupt people, money launderers, money looters, extortionists and militancy.

"The law and order will have to be improved as soon as possible. We know that it is very difficult task in the current context. But the police administration has to be made active quickly, otherwise the perpetrators of mass killings may raise their ugly heads again,” he said.

Mentioning that the people should be given relief, the politician said, “The prices of daily commodities will have to be brought within the purchasing power of the common people.”

He said a corrupt person is still sitting in the top seat of the country.

“There is no logical ground for it. Those who keep him sitting in this seat on the plea of the Constitution don’t evaluate properly the sacrifices the students and masses made (during the revolution),” he said.

Stop border killings for good relations between Bangladesh and India:

The LDP chief said Bangladesh can’t change its neighbour. “So, the border killings must be stopped immediately for the sake of bilateral relations between the two countries,” he said.

“We’ll have to ensure a fair share of water from the common rivers through negotiation with the neighbour upholding our respect and dignity. We don’t desire harm to any country. We want none to poke nose into the matters of our country. We rather want to take our country forward keeping a good relation with all,” he added.

LDP secretary general Secretary General Redwan Ahmed, its presidium members Nurul Alam Talukder, Awrangajeb Belal, Hamidur Rahman Khan and Syed Khairul Kabir Pathan were present.
