Some parties spreading misinformation, being evasive on elections: Mirza Abbas

BNP leader Mirza Abbas says that some political parties are making misleading statements and “being evasive about elections”, reports bdnews24.com.

The member of the party’s Standing Committee made the remark during an event organised by the Dhaka Metropolitan South unit of the BNP at the party’s central offices in Naya Paltan on Friday.

“Speaking about the elections… sometimes they say they will go for them, sometimes they say they will not… sometimes they say they will go for polls if this happens, and then they say they will go when that happens. Brothers, it is because of your wrong decisions that the BNP and our alliance went to the elections in 2008. As a result of that, many notable and famous people of Bangladesh had to die on the gallows. Please don’t make the same mistake again. One mistake can take away the lives of millions of people.”

“So don’t be evasive about the elections… I am not saying this to the government, I am saying this to the different political parties that are talking about holding the election in different ways in order to confuse the government. You are putting the government in an unsteady position.”

Abbas said, “To this government, we say – you have made an announcement regarding December… hold the election in December. We are always prepared for elections.”

“Those who are trying to disrupt the elections, attempting to call it into question are, on the contrary, attempting to destroy this country’s independence and sovereignty. They are trying to rob the people of their right to speak, to rob the people of their right to vote.”

“I urge you, please refrain from such activities.”

Regarding the genocide cases, he said: “Many say that you have to complete the trials before elections. Brothers, is it possible to finish them before elections?”

“You will try to speed through the trials in three months… if you can do it then there are no problems… but ensure that you achieve justice instead of injustice… we must have justice.”
