Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz dies at 78

Dietrich Mateschitz, a co-owner of Red Bull, passed away at the age of 78. The Austrian entrepreneur had been battling a long-term illness.

He was an extremely powerful businessman from Austria who developed Red Bull and achieved great success in sports.

Mateschitz, a wealthy businessman from Austria, developed the energy drink brand and then successfully introduced it to Formula 1, winning four consecutive double world championships from 2010 to 2013.

Just before qualifying at the United States Grand Prix, it was announced that he had passed away following a prolonged illness. A somber Red Bull crew reported the news together.

"It is very, very sad," said Red Bull team principal Christian Horner. "What a great man.
