Elon Musk announced on Wednesday that Twitter will not permit anyone who has been banned from the site to return until it establishes new rules, a whole new process that will take at least a few weeks.
That would mean that people who are banned from the site for violating Twitter's rules for harassment, violence, or election and COVID-related misinformation will not be able to get back their accounts before next Tuesday's U.S. midterm elections.
The statement came after Musk took control of the social-media site last week.
He said in a tweet that he had met with a handful of civil-society leaders about how Twitter will continue to combat hate and harassment and enforce its election integrity policies."
Musk confirmed last week, that he won't make major decisions about content or restoring banned accounts before setting up a content moderation council. He repeated this point again on Wednesday, adding the council he's assembling will include the civil rights community and groups who face hate-fueled violence
