A review committee has recommended posthumous (retrospective) promotions for 78 retired officials from various government cadres beyond the administration cadre, marking the second phase of its work to address longstanding promotion grievances.
According to the report submitted Wednesday, the recommendations include promotions of 12 officials to Grade-1, 32 officials to Grade-2, and 34 officials to Grade-3 positions. All of them have already retired from service.
Posthumous promotion refers to granting promotion retroactively, effective from an earlier date.
The report was handed over to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at his office by committee chair and former finance secretary Zakir Ahmed Khan.
This is the committee’s second report, following its earlier recommendations that led to the retrospective promotion of 764 retired officials in the administration cadre, from deputy secretary to secretary level.
The Chief Adviser’s press wing confirmed the submission, noting that the five-member committee was formed on 16 September last year to review appeals from officials who retired between 2009 and 4 August 2024 without receiving due promotions.
In its second phase, the committee reviewed applications from officials outside the administration cadre who held Grade-3 and higher positions.
Of 318 applications received, 68 were deemed outside the committee’s jurisdiction and 40 were incomplete.
The committee ultimately reviewed 210 cases, recommending promotions for 78 officials. Among them, six were recommended for three-step promotions, 17 for two steps, and 55 for one step. Promotions were not recommended for 132 applicants.
Chief Adviser’s Principal Secretary Siraj Uddin Mia was also present during the submission of the report.
