Rajinikanth’s Coolie breaks records despite Saiyaara storm

After Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara created a box office storm in July, no film seemed capable of competing with its momentum. But South Indian superstar Rajinikanth’s Coolie has rewritten the numbers.

Released on August 14, Coolie received mixed reviews from critics, yet audiences showered it with love. Within just 14 days, the film grossed ₹501 crore worldwide, becoming the third Indian film of 2025 to enter the ₹500-crore club after Chhaba and Saiyaara.

In India, the film has earned a net of ₹268.75 crore in two weeks. However, with collections dropping to only ₹4.5 crore on day 14, it may take some more time to hit the ₹300-crore domestic milestone.

Internationally, Coolie has had a strong run, raking in nearly ₹182 crore (USD 21 million), with record-breaking opening weekends in the US, UK, and Australia. Although earnings have slowed, the film recently surpassed Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 (₹488 crore) and now ranks among the top 25 highest-grossing Indian films of all time.

Within South Indian cinema, Coolie has already entered the all-time top 10. The next targets are crossing Saiyaara (₹568 crore), Padmaavat (₹585 crore), and Sanju (₹588 crore) to break into the top 20 global earners.
