Vote counting ends, university to remain closed tomorrow

Vote counting for the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JAKSU) elections has been completed, and preparations for announcing the results are currently underway.

The university’s Vice-Provost, Professor Sohel Ahmed, confirmed that the counting concluded at 2:15 pm on Saturday in the Senate Hall, where the results will be officially declared.

The Election Commission had previously announced multiple timelines for result announcements. Initially, results were expected during the day, with a later update indicating a possible announcement in the evening.

On Friday night, Chief Election Commissioner Professor Md. Moniruzzaman had stated that results for both JAKSU and the 21 Hall Union elections would be declared after vote counting was completed.

Earlier, Proctor and Election Commission Secretary A. K. M. Rashidul Alam had indicated that unofficial results could be prepared between 10 pm and 11 pm on Friday.

Meanwhile, Jahangirnagar University authorities have announced that the campus will remain closed on Sunday.

All offices and classes will be suspended, and previously scheduled examinations are postponed. The decision, confirmed in a press release signed by University Registrar A. B. M. Azizur Rahman, was made due to four consecutive days of election-related activities.

Normal activities are expected to resume on Monday, September 15. However, first-year undergraduate (Honours) admissions for the 2024–25 academic session will proceed as planned, with relevant offices open and staff available to manage the process.

The Election Commission has expressed hope that results will be announced by Sunday evening.
