Two brothers were hacked to death on Saturday morning in Chuadanga’s Jibannagar upazila following a long-running dispute. The attack occurred in a field near the 72nd railway bridge at Uthli village.
The victims were identified as Minta Mia, 60, and his younger brother Hamza Ali, 45, residents of Bara Mosque Para in Uthli village.
According to local sources, the killings stemmed from a dispute over cattle trading with a man named Khoka and his family about four months ago. The brothers were cattle sellers, while the alleged attackers were buyers.
Local resident Parvez said the brothers were working in their field on Saturday morning when 8–10 people armed with sharp weapons and sticks attacked them, leaving both men critically injured. Villagers rushed them to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where Hamza was declared dead on arrival, and Minta died later while undergoing treatment.
Dr Wahid Mahmud Robin of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital confirmed the deaths, saying Hamza had already died before being brought to the hospital and Minta succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jibannagar Police Station Mamun Hossain Biswas said the attack was linked to a previous cattle trading dispute between the victims and their neighbours. Police have sent a team to the scene and launched operations to arrest the attackers.
Tension prevails in Uthli village following the double murder.
