Lieutenant Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs, has announced that the government has increased its grant for this year’s Durga Puja celebrations by Tk 1 crore.

He made the statement on Wednesday (17 September) while visiting the Ramna Kali Mandir in Dhaka.

The Home Affairs Adviser noted that last year the government provided Tk 4 crore for Durga Puja. This year, the amount has been raised to Tk 5 crore.

He added that over the past 15 years, the government’s contribution had remained at Tk 2 crore, which has now been increased to Tk 5 crore. He also assured that if further support is needed, the government would provide it.

Lt. Col. Chowdhury said this year’s Puja would be celebrated in a more festive atmosphere compared to last year.

He highlighted that the festival attracts people from all religions, not just Hindus. To ensure smooth celebrations, a mobile application has been launched that allows real-time reporting of any incidents or emergencies directly to the government.

He expressed hope that this year’s Durga Puja would be observed in a peaceful and celebratory manner.

Additionally, he mentioned that the number of Puja pandals has been increased compared to last year. The Home Affairs Adviser urged both law enforcement agencies and Puja committees to work together to maintain peace and order during the festivities.
