The 2023 Bangla Academy Sahitya Puroshkar (Literary Award) winners are sixteen individuals.
According to press release on Wednesday, British-Bangladeshi storyteller Shamim Azad was honored for her contribution to poetry.
Playwrights Mrittika Chakma and Masud Pathik were honored for their skill in playwrights while novelists Nuruddin Jahangir and Salma Bani received the prize for best fiction writer.
Ornithologist Inam Al Haque was acknowledged in the environment/science category, while Tapankar Chakrabarty received recognition in the children`s literature genre.
Tapan Bagchi`s contribution to folklore earned him the academy`s highest honor.
For their writings about the Liberation War, Afroza Parvin and Asaduzzaman Asad received recognition; for their writings about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Md. Mojibur Rahman and Saifullah Mahmud Dulal received awards.
Awardee in the biography category was Ishak Khan.
Six categories were included when Bangla Academy Sahitya Puroshkar was founded in 1960: poetry, novels, short stories, essays, children`s literature, and translation.
In 1985, two further awards were instituted to acknowledge the comprehensive achievements made to the Bangla language and literature.
