Paris Fashion Week, Dior introduces baroque-inspired collection

Maria Grazia Chiuri, the designer behind Dior, drew inspiration from Catherine de Medici's reign and incorporated the period's hoop skirts, corsets, and platform shoes into a contemporary lineup for the brand's spring collection.

Models are paraded around a complex cardboard-layered grotto structure wearing wide, bell-shaped hoop skirts, lace shorts, and long, black coats with floral embroidery.

It was a temporary construction situated in the Tuileries Gardens and was created by artist Eva Jospin.

De Medici was responsible for introducing needlework to the French court. She updated the look by employing technical materials for crinoline skirts and adding three-dimensional raffia flowers and exquisite lace underwear. also exposing the midriff to scrutiny.
