Missiles and drones struck the United Arab Emirates on Monday, killing one civilian, disrupting operations at the world’s busiest international airport and sparking a fire at a major oil facility as the Middle East war intensified.
Authorities said a missile hit a car on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi, killing a Palestinian civilian.
The attacks are part of a series of Iranian strikes targeting the UAE since the conflict erupted in the region.
In the eastern emirate of Fujairah, a drone strike on oil infrastructure triggered a fire at a key energy hub.
Officials said no injuries were reported and firefighting efforts were underway to bring the blaze under control.
The incident comes days after smoke was seen rising from the same area, which hosts major oil storage and export facilities.
A pipeline in Fujairah allows a large share of the UAE’s oil exports to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway that Iran has effectively blocked in response to US-Israeli attacks.
A source familiar with operations told AFP that the state-owned oil company ADNOC has suspended oil loading at its Fujairah storage facility following repeated strikes.
In the northern emirate of Umm Al Quwain, a separate drone attack damaged a building but caused no casualties.
The strikes also disrupted aviation in Dubai, where airport authorities said flights were gradually resuming after a nearby fuel tank fire caused by a “drone-related incident.”
Witnesses reported seeing thick black smoke rising near the airport, while passengers were temporarily moved to lower floors of the terminal.
Iran has launched more than 1,900 missiles and drones toward the UAE since the conflict began, targeting energy infrastructure, airports and other facilities despite the country’s air-defence systems intercepting most projectiles.
Regional tensions continued to spread across the Gulf. Qatar said it intercepted nearly all of 14 missiles and several drones launched toward its territory, while Saudi Arabia reported intercepting more than 60 drones.
Meanwhile, Bahrain said it had intercepted about 350 Iranian missiles and drones since the start of the war.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said US bases in the region had been used to launch attacks against Iran, including strikes on Kharg Island, a key oil export terminal. UAE authorities have denied the allegation.
The ongoing strikes have disrupted travel and energy supplies across the Gulf, increasing pressure on economies heavily reliant on oil expor
