Twenty-one out of 24 candidates in Feni`s three constituencies have lost their security deposit as they failed to bag required votes cast in the 12th parliamentary elections held on Sunday.
In Feni-1, five out of six candidates, seven out of eight candidates in Feni-2 and nine out of 10 candidates in Feni-3 lost their deposits, according to the results announced by the Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer of Feni Shahina Aktar on Monday.
Awami League candidate Alauddin Ahmed Chowdhury Nasim from Feni-1, Awami League candidate Nizam Uddin Hazari from Feni-2 and Jatiya Party`s Lt Gen (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury from Feni-3 emerged victorious in the 12th parliamentary election.
Analysing the results, it was found that they all failed to get the minimum votes to save their security deposit.
Feni District`s Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner, Shahina Akhter, explained that candidates in each constituency won`t regain their deposit if they fail to secure at least one-eighth of the total valid votes cast.
