Along with this case, Saiful’s brother, Khan Alam, has filed another case about an attack on lawyers and police officers, as well as the vandalism that took place.
This case mentions 116 people by name and includes 400-500 unnamed suspects. Earlier, the police had filed three separate cases related to the violent clashes.
The trouble started on Tuesday, November 26, when the court refused to grant bail to Chinnmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, the spokesperson of a group called Sammilit Sanatani Jagoron Jot.
He had been arrested in a sedition case. After the court decision, over a thousand of his supporters surrounded the prison van and blocked it, causing a protest. To break up the crowd, police, SWAT forces, and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) used batons and sound grenades.
During this time, some lawyers took to the streets in protest against the damage to their vehicles and the throwing of stones. This led to a clash between the protesters and the police, and in the confusion, Saiful Islam Alif was killed by the attackers.
