On Wednesday (December 29) customs officials arrested a man along with 44 gold bars and five gold bangles weighing around 5 kg 180 grams at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital.
The estimated weight of the total gold is about Taka 3.40 crore, Dhaka Customs House Deputy Commissioner Sanwarul Kabir told the media.
The official said the arrestee was identified as Ataur Rahman, son of Altab Ali of Jarunia Gazipur village under Chunarughat police station in Habiganj district.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of customs officials stopped the passenger and recovered the gold bars from his possession.
Meanwhile, a case has been lodged with airport police station in this connection and the arrestee was handed over to police.
