The government has nominated nine distinguished individuals and the music band Warfaze for the 2026 Ekushey Padak in recognition of their significant contributions in their respective fields. The nominees include actress Bobita, late band music icon Ayub Bachchu, and journalist Shafik Rehman.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs on Thursday, according to the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
The nominees for the 2026 Ekushey Padak are:
- Farida Akhtar Bobita (Film)
- Prof Md Abdus Sattar (Fine Arts)
- Marina Tabassum (Architecture)
- Ayub Bachchu (Music)
- Orthi Ahmed (Dance)
- Islam Uddin Palakar (Theatre)
- Shafik Rehman (Journalism)
- Prof Dr Mahbubul Alam Majumdar (Education)
- Tejas Haldar Jas (Sculpture)
- Warfaze (Music Band)
This marks the first time a rock band has been nominated for a national-level state award. The Ekushey Padak is the country’s second-highest civilian honour.
