The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has found nine properties, including houses and apartments, in the United States owned by Abdus Sobhan Miah (Golap), a former Awami League lawmaker.
The market value of these properties is estimated to be around 32 crore BDT, according to sources within the ACC.
Details of these findings were shared on Wednesday, March 19, by ACC officials.
The investigation revealed that the properties were allegedly purchased by Abdus Sobhan through money that was transferred from Bangladesh to the U.S.
Abdus Sobhan Miah, who once represented the Madaripur-3 constituency as a Member of Parliament (MP), lost his seat in the recent 12th National Parliamentary election.
He was also serving as the publicity and publication secretary for the Awami League.
Following the government`s fall after the student and people`s uprising on August 5, Abdus Sobhan went into hiding.
Later, on August 25, he was arrested by the police and is currently in prison.
Today, during a press conference at the ACC headquarters in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, ACC Director General Md. Akhtar Hossain confirmed that Abdus Sobhan is facing charges for accumulating wealth beyond his known sources of income.
He also mentioned that Sobhan`s financial activities are being closely examined, and suspicious transactions amounting to 97 crore 63 lakh 23 thousand BDT have been discovered across 51 of his bank accounts.
With Sobhan already in jail, the ACC continues its investigation, raising concerns about the extent of his overseas assets and financial dealings.
