Age limit to be 18 yrs to get Covid shot

Directorate General of Health Department Abul Bashar Khursheed Alam said, the minimum age to receive Covid-19 shot will regulate at 18 years.

He said this while replying queries of newsmen after visiting Mugda general hospital in the capital on Friday (July 23).

The health DG said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed me to cut off ages for the inoculation. She said me to fix the age limit at 18. The health experts will discuss on the issue to device how the decision can be taken. We will let you know the decision after our discussion. But, it will be changed soon.”

He said, government is working to make the jab easier. Government is planning how the village people can receive the vaccine showing NID cards on the vaccine centre without any preregistration.

The authorities approved 55 years and older citizens to get coronavirus shot during the first phase. Later on, the DGHS commuted the age limit as the number of registration was very low. The new age limit was fixed at 44 and later 40. On July 5, the vaccine receiving age was commuted to 35 and 30 on July 19.
