Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister, Obaidul Quader, has stated that former army chief Aziz Ahmed and former police inspector general Benazir Ahmed will not be exempted from corruption charges. He asserted, “The ruling Awami League does not spare anyone who commits corruption.”
Quader made these remarks on Sunday (June 9) during a joint meeting at the Awami League’s central office on Bangabandhu Avenue.
He emphasized, “No one will escape punishment for corruption. Aziz and Benazir are not members of the Awami League. They have committed corruption. Granting them immunity would perpetuate a culture of impunity.”
Highlighting the BNP’s threats to make the Awami League flee, Quader noted that it is the BNP who ended up retreating. “On October 28, BNP tried to engage in politics over dead bodies. They must be punished for that,” he said.
Quader further commented, “I laugh when BNP talks about movements. They threaten the Awami League but then flee from Paltan themselves. BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy ate rice with coral fish at the DB office and disappeared.”
Referring to the opposition’s activities before the January 7 elections, Quader mentioned, “The BNP carried out movements, which were essentially acts of terrorism. In contrast, the Awami League held peace and development rallies after discussing with party leaders. We are not afraid of movements, but we fear arson terrorism.”
Quader also stated, “Khaleda Zia herself legalized black money. This budget is designed to curb the looting by bigwigs. Sheikh Hasina has shown us the light from the darkness of the grave.”
