Bangladesh is considering to engage a United States (US) law firm for legal discussions with the US over the sanctions imposed on seven former and current officials of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
On Tuesday (December 28), Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen disclosed the information to reporters after an inter-ministerial meeting.
At the end of the meeting, the Foreign Secretary said that through our (Bangladesh) embassies in the US, we are in contact with various firns to lift the sanctions.
"They (US) have set some conditions to lift the sanctions. We are looking into the possibility of appointing a legal entity in the United States," he said.'
Bangladesh will send its response to the US by Friday, added the foreign secretary.
The meeting was called to discuss 'Leahy Law 1961.' Presided by the foreign secretary, several top-notch officials of the law and home ministry joined the inter-ministerial meeting.
On World Human Rights Day (December 10), the US imposed sanctions on RAB and seven former and current officials of the law enforcement agency.
