Biman Bangladesh Airlines began direct flights between Dhaka and Chennai today.
Md Mahbub Ali, state minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, formally inaugurated the route at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport through video message.
At 12:50 pm, the inaugural flight, BG363, took off from Dhaka. It arrived in Chennai at 3:20 pm local time.
BG363 will depart Dhaka every Thursday, Monday, and Saturday at 12:50 pm. The return flight, BG364, arrives in Dhaka around 7:30 pm local time after departing Chennai at 4:15 pm.
The Chennai flights, which are operated by Boeing 737-800 aircraft, aim to meet the need of Bangladeshis who are traveling for business and for health concerns.
Shafiul Azim, the CEO and Managing Director of Biman, said that more flights will be operated on this route given the high passenger demand.
Passengers can buy tickets through Biman`s official travel agents, call centers, sales centers, and mobile apps, he added.
The event was attended by Indian High Commissioner Pranay Kumar Verma, Biman Board Chairman Mostafa Kamal Uddin, and Secretary of Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Mokammel Hossain, among others.
