A clash broke out between the staff of the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation, commonly known as the Cripple Hospital, and a group of individuals who were injured during the July Uprising.
This incident took place inside the hospital premises on Monday, March 10, around 12 p.m.
Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police`s Tejgaon Division, Ibne Mizan, confirmed the occurrence of the clash.
"There was a confrontation between the admitted students and the hospital staff. Police have been deployed to manage the situation," he stated while speaking to reporters.
His comments were later covered in a report by bdnews24.com.
According to a hospital staff member who requested anonymity for security reasons, tensions had been brewing for a while between the hospital staff and the injured students receiving treatment.
The conflict intensified when a blood bank staff member, Rafique, was reportedly assaulted by some of the admitted students on Sunday night.
In response to that incident, the hospital staff began a protest in front of the hospital the next day, halting their work in protest.
While staging the strike, they claim they were attacked, further escalating the situation.
The hospital staff has raised concerns about safety, but at this point, no statements have been made by any of the July Uprising fighters regarding the altercation.
This confrontation highlights the fragile situation within the hospital and raises questions about the handling of tensions between patients and hospital staff in sensitive environments like these.
